Brand Development

Creating a brand for a purpose-driven, west coast communications firm

How we worked with The Tea Communications

The Challenge

As long-time freelancers launching a new company, co-founders Larissa and Maddie were inundated with many opportunities. But they lacked a solid brand to ground themselves with. They needed to invest time and seek expertise to make sure that they were clear on their brand going forward. Differentiating themselves in a busy market was important, while also maintaining authenticity, personality, and not taking themselves too seriously.

The Work

We developed a brand strategy and visual brand identity for The Tea Communications. Our goal was to create a brand that is distinct and recognizable in a field that is highly competitive. It was also important to our clients that it reflects their strong roots in the West Coast. We researched & developed an in-depth audience profile for The Tea’s core audience, including valuable insights into their values, behaviours, lifestyle, and how to reach them.

We helped Larissa and Maddie with how to tap into the global rise of purpose-driven businesses. Supporting their passion to work with clients who have social purpose. We distilled the work down into a simple brand promise that The Tea delivers every time. After defining the key brand characteristics, we created a fresh and compelling visual identity. The brand stands out from the crowd and is aligned to its customer base and their needs.

The Outcome

  • A distinct, recognizable brand, built on their values, that sets The Tea apart in a highly competitive field. It captures a Westcoast moody vibe, which was important to our clients
  • A new brand strategy and design that is grounded in their values and what defines them
  • A deeper understanding of where they should focus their efforts while they launch their business
  • The ability to make tough decisions when it comes to potential clients. The brand values/guidelines serve as their business 'North Star'
  • Strong alignment on their content and messaging. It has helped streamline a cohesive, consistent brand direction that looks and sounds professional while staying true to themselves
  • By determining what they value most and where they should focus their efforts, Larissa and Maddie were able to efficiently and strategically tackle the next steps to bring their brand to life
“Working with House Work was a fantastic experience. Both Teresa and Jen took the time to really understand us personally and professionally and helped us define our brand values, essence, and promise. We ended up with a brand look that we love every time we look at it and we're proud to put out to the world. The team at HouseWork understands that a brand is more than just a logo, it's how you represent your business on a daily basis, it defines who and how you work, and truly is all-encompassing. We really enjoyed working with Teresa and Jen.”
